PERCUSSION PISTOL. Caliber 54. Standard configuration, 12" overall, 6" round barrel proofed “USN / 1845 / RC / P” at breech, nickel plated brass furniture, lock under hammer “N. P. AMES / SPRINGFIELD / MASS” & “USN / 1844” at tail, captured swivel loading assembly.
2000 of this 1st American percussion pistol contracted by Ames, plating was later done by navy department and not contractor. Condition very good overall, original and complete, stock sound with scattered cosmetic bruises, heavy edge wear, mechanics fine, smooth clear bore.
